This is a site dedicated to what I love the most: Stories. Stories I'm reading, stories I'm writing and also, to act as a record of my writing progress over the years.
Writing has been a fleeting temptress for me for many years. It has warped and changed its persona to me many times; a friend, a whisper from the wind, a lover, and a forgotten friend. This could be considered my testament to many aspiring writers, who, like me, taste a bittersweetness in their love for writing. This is my record of what I am doing to tame the elusive and wild beast called storytelling.
My writing has instilled in me a multitude of emotions over the years. Some were good, some were bad. I have felt joy, love, fear, embarrassment, longing, inadequateness, the occasional sense of proudness, the list goes on and on. It was embarrassment for not understanding things like "prose", "story arc", and "archetypes". I remember a time when I lost all hope because I couldn't think of the word "balustrade". Writing for me has been an amalgamation of emotions: a sense of longing to get something on the page, intermixed with the sense of inadequateness when comparing myself to writers who have "made it to the big time".
But enough about that. I have found a renewed fondness for writing. What have I found to get myself motivated? What have I done to maintain the momentum? For me, it has been letting go of that "golden story" and focusing on nothing more than developing my craft. I pinpointed that I was feeling embarrassed and inadequate for not knowing everything there is to know about grammar, punctuation, and for not having a grasp of language that could rival Shakespeare. In short, I decided to focus on improving my writing skills. This website is my collection of works where I am focusing on learning how to improve my writing.
When I came to this conclusion in my writing, I felt a burden lift from me. Now I write for two things: to better my craft and to have fun. That is what it has become and what it must be for me.
Come along for the journey. Let this be a beacon to those who are lost in the forest with no light and no way. I hope that it helps you find a solid starting point for your own story. This website is my "There and Back Again" for writing. Here I will be uploading what stories I'm working on. In which, at the beginning, you will find the specific goal or task that I'm trying to focus on in that piece; You can find unpublished (and in many cases unedited) short stories which I have "completed", and writing prompts I have written. I don't want to mislead you into thinking that any of these could ever be considered masterpieces or that any of it is a "work of art". These are my raw attempts at improving my writing and nothing more. My mistakes are laid bare here and I'm not afraid to show you because this is a learning experience for me. Everyone has to start somewhere.
