About Zac

Zac Hunsaker  was born in Utah on July 7, 1991.  Growing up, his family saw him as an energetic, fun, and loving kid. His teachers at school, however saw him as an unmotivated, uninterested child who was often too distracted and all-too-often "somewhere else". That's likely because he was somewhere else. Lost in his own mind with is entire focus directed at anything other than what was on the board.

Zac did well in school despite his general disinterest in his subjects. When he was a kid, he loved reading things like Garfield, The Magic Treehouse, Holes, Harry Potter, The Seventh Tower, and more. He often had little interest in the books assigned to him in school except for maybe a few, but always had great interest in other books he found that were related to epic/high fantasy, science fiction, and mystery and loved the Sunday comics in the newspaper.

Zac became interested in writing when, in 2008, a girl he liked invited him to listen to some guy named Brandon Sanderson who was coming to speak on being a writer. Zac thought that it sounded like the most boring thing that he could ever do, but he liked the girl, so it would be worth it... When Zac went to attend the small event, he never expected it to change his world forever. Brandon talked of how he loved writing. He was his own boss. He got to wake up in the morning and write about allomancers, magic, love interests, the fall of tyrants, and the rise of heroes.  At the end of the lecture, Zac walked immediately up to the front of the assembly hall, purchased one of Brandon's copies of Mistborn he had brought with him which Brandon signed. Zac walked out of there, inspired and his imagination reeling; trying to develop fresh new ideas.

From that day on, Zac gained more and more interest in writing and wrote a little here and there. Zac graduated high school shortly after, started college, got married to a beautiful woman, all the while writing in his free time. The stories were short sighted, lacking in character, setting, and plot and generally not the best works. During his time at college, he decided to try his hand at a novel. He was so excited about it. He wrote avidly for months... Until his father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and soon after, passed away. Zac decided to spend more time focusing on his career and spending every moment he could with his family. For the next few years, when he tried to write, it became more of a chore than anything and he lost interest. Picking it up now and again to start over.

Recently he began to focus again on what wasn't working with his writing and what he could do to overcome it. He began reading books on writing, following and listening to podcasts, and has decided to focus on what he wants less and what he loves more. For him, it's not writing one story. It's about writing.

Now he has found his love for writing once more, and he's posting his work here for anyone to either enjoy... or otherwise.

Many years after Zac had purchased that copy of Mistorn, Zac's new puppy, Zimmer, chewed a corner out of it. Then for good measure, a few years after that (after never having chewed on a single other book), that same dog chewed on Zac's newly signed copy of Steelheart. Zac has now learned his lesson and now keeps all of his Signed Brandon Sanderson books out of Zimmer's reach.
